On the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture (January 22, commemoration of completion of the State Anthem of Hungary by the poet Kölcsey Ferenc in 1823), a festive event took place at the Embassy of Hungary. At the event participated members of the Hungarian community in Moldova and official representatives of Ukrainian, Russian, Bulgarian, Gagauz, Slovak, Jewish and Roma national minorities from the Interethnic Relations Bureau of the Republic of Moldova, who read out together the State Anthem of Hungary and other two contemporary Hungarian poems. An important notice to be made is that 150 years ago, in 1868, the Minister of education and cults Eötvös József published Article no. 44 of the Law on Minorities, a law that granted to the national minorities the most rights for that time, which may bear a message for our times as well. On this occasion, a commemorative event was organized in Balti, as well, by the members and supporters of the Hungarian Association of Moldova, with the assistance of the Hungarian university lecturer at the State University in Balti.
